The Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology provides funding opportunities for qualified applicants to the Graduate Program through departmental and faculty-funded research assistantships and University and other fellowship programs. Supplemental funding is also available from the NC State University Graduate School Diversity Programs for individuals from under-represented groups who have been accepted into the Graduate Program in Environmental and Molecular Toxicology. Additional information on sources of support for graduate studies can be found at the Graduate School web site. Current support includes stipend, tuition and health insurance with the total compensation exceeding $25,000 per year. An overview of funding sources is listed below.

To be considered for support, applications should be completed by January 15 for Fall Semester.

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Training Grant Fellowships

Stipend: $20,976 per year plus health insurance, tuition & fees
Faculty Advisor: Restricted to the NIEHS Training Grant Faculty: Drs. Bonner, Hodgson, Horowitz, Laster, LeBlanc, McCulloch, Ninomiya-Tsuji, Rodgriguez-Puebla, Smart, Tsuji.
Qualifications:


Applicants must be admitted to the PhD program in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology. Selection is based on written application and requires strong academic credentials including GPA, GRE scores and three letters of recommendation.

Departmental Research Assistantships

Stipend: $20,976 per year
Faculty Advisor: Any faculty member in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology
Qualifications: Applicants must be admitted to the graduate program in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology. Selection is based on written application and requires strong academic credentials including GPA, GRE scores and three letters of recommendation.

Departmental Teaching Assistantship

Stipend: $20,976 per year
Faculty Advisor: Any faculty member in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology
Qualifications: Applicants must be admitted to the graduate program in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology. Selection is based on written application and requires strong academic credentials including GPA, GRE scores and three letters of recommendation.

Teaching Assistantships in Other Departments

Stipend: Varies, typically $15,000 per year
Faculty Advisor: Any faculty member in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology.
Qualifications: Applicants must be admitted to the graduate school at NCSU. Selection is based on strong academic credentials. More information can be obtained by contacting:

Research Assistantships on Individual Faculty Competitive Grants

Stipend: $20,976 per year
Faculty Advisor: Any faculty member in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology with available grant funds. Applicants may correspond with individual faculty members to check availability.
Qualifications: Applicants must be admitted to the graduate program in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology. Selection is based on written application and requires strong academic credentials including GPA, GRE scores and three letters of recommendation.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Cooperative Training Agreement in Environmental Sciences Research

Stipend: $20,000 per year plus travel allowance
Faculty Advisor:
Restricted to the EPA Cooperative Training Preceptors. Contact Drs. Adler or LeBlanc for more information
Qualifications:
Applicants must be admitted to participating departments at NC State (e.g., Toxicology). Awards are usually made after completion of at least one year at NC State. Both MS and PhD students are eligible.

NCSU/NIH Biotechnology Training Program Traineeships

Stipend: $20,976 per year plus travel, book, equipment and supply allowance.
Faculty Advisor: Any faculty member of the NC State University Biotechnology Training Program. Members of the Environmental and Molecular Toxicology faculty and associate faculty who qualify are listed at the NCSU Biotechnology Program web site.
Qualifications: Applicants must be admitted to the graduate program and be working with a participating Biotechnology faculty member and pursuing a Biotechnology Minor. Generally, students participate in the second and third years of their Ph.D. programs.

US Department of Education Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) Fellowship Program in Biotechnology

Stipend: $21,500 per year (may be supplemented by the department) plus book, research and travel allowance
Faculty Advisor: Any faculty member of the Environmental and Molecular Toxicology Department.
Qualifications: Applicants must be admitted to the graduate program in a participating department (e.g., Environmental and Molecular Toxicology) and be a Biotechnology Minor. Selection is based on written application and requires strong academic credentials. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, be committed to a career in university teaching or research and have demonstrated financial need.

Note: Assistantships and fellowships are always in considerable demand and highly competitive. Therefore, completed applications should be sent to the department as early as possible. We usually do not accept PhD students unless they are awarded financial support through an assistantship or fellowship. Decisions are made early each spring concerning support for the following Fall semester. To be considered for support, applications should be completed by January 15 for Fall Semester.

Space is often limited and, at any time, a particular professor may not have laboratory space available for new students. It is advised that prospective students correspond directly with those professors in areas where they may wish to pursue their research and graduate studies.
